The Career and Technical Instruction (CTI) support service is designed to support students with disabilities enrolled in Career Pathways classes.

The goal of the secondary (grades 9-12) level services is to provide these students with job-entry skills at the completion of the Career Pathways experience. The role of the career and technical instruction coordinator is to provide resource assistance to students with disabilities served under the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) in the Career Pathways program and to coordinate the services needed for the learner to acquire his/her goal of job placement.

Students who receive support services are students who receive special education services under the requirements of IDEA. These students are eligible for services under one or more of the following disability categories:

• Mildly or moderately intellectually disabled
• Specific learning disabled
• Emotionally and behaviorally disordered
• Speech/language impaired
• Visually impaired
• Other health impaired
• Orthopedically impaired
• Deaf and hard of hearing
• Autism

What is Dual Enrollment (DE)?

Dual Enrollment is a program for students to enroll in an eligible post-secondary institution while in high school. Students receive high school credit and college credit. Students may take any course (academic, Career Pathway or elective courses) or may enroll in a program (Associate Degree, Diploma or Technical Certificate of Credit). Currently, all tuition, student fees and books are provided at no cost to the student; however, some classes using supplies may require a supply fee.

Eligibility:

1. Student must be approved and classified by the high school
2. There are no residency or citizenship requirements
3. Student must meet admissions requirements at the post-secondary institution
4. Student must not have already received a high school diploma

• English
• Mathematics
• Science
• Social Studies
• Foreign Language
• Career Pathway Courses
• Electives

Georgia Senate Bill 2

Students who are at least 16 years of age, have successfully completed the state-required 9th and 10th grade level high school courses and state-required tests associated with any such courses, and meet admission requirements of the post-secondary institution can enroll in a two-year program leading directly to a career.

Students may receive their high school diploma upon notifying Marietta High of the successful completion of the following:

• successful completion of the two-year course of study in which the student receives either an associate degree or technical college diploma;
• or at least two technical college certificate of credit programs in one specific career pathway and all post-secondary academic education and technical education and training prerequisites for any state, national or industry occupational certifications or licenses required to work in the field as determined by the Technical College System of Georgia

Work-Based Learning (WBL) represents the pinnacle of the Career Pathway experience. To qualify for a WBL placement, a student must be in grades 11 or 12 and at least 16 years-old. Students must also have a defined Career Pathway in order to participate in the WBL component of their career pathway. This is especially important for successful completion of a student’s pathway in that the student’s job placement is directly related to the curriculum of the Career Pathways classes completed or currently enrolled.

Opportunities for work-based learning include Youth Apprenticeship (YAP), Cooperative Education, Internship and Clinical Experiences. Coordinator recommendation is required for all WBL placements.
