S.O.A.R
Safe Orderly And Respectfully...
SOAR is a hands-on face-to-face school bus safety program for our K-5th grade students. Our 6th - 12th grade students review the video that is provided below that captures the safe and correct way to ride the school bus.
In addition to S.O.A.R. interaction with the students, we also review weekly safety verification forms, that review safety tips and reminders for our students, on how to be a safe rider on the school bus.
Every year, our S.O.A.R. Safety Team schedules a time to visit the schools to review the entire S.O.A.R. program in the Fall & Spring (elementary schools Only) with our students so that they are prepared, equipped and knowledgeable on the following S.O.A.R. stations:
-
The 12ft Danger Zone

School Buses are 70% Safer than Other Vehicles
Although they are not typically equipped with seat belts, school buses are also 70% safer than any other vehicle. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA): “Students are about 70 times more likely to get to school safely when taking a bus instead of traveling by car. That’s because school buses are the most regulated vehicles on the road; they’re designed to be safer than passenger vehicles in preventing crashes and injuries; and in every State, stop-arm laws protect children from other motorists.”

Over 480,000 school buses run to transport children each day
Combined, these buses are getting over 27 million children to and from school daily. This system significantly opens up access to education, reduces traffic, and benefits the environment by replacing cars on the road. If a child takes the bus to school from kindergarten through 12th grade, they’ll ride it approximately 4,600 times throughout their academic career.
